All Allegheny County residents can sign up for a library card at the library circulation desk. Library cards are free, and give you access to wide variety of library materials not just in the Carnegie Library of Homestead, but in all of Allegheny County!
To apply for a library card you must show identification which includes a photo and proof of current address. Acceptable photo ID includes a PA driver’s license, a PA state identification card, passport, military ID, work ID, student ID, or a medical insurance card. Acceptable proof of address includes a PA learner’s permit, vehicle registration card, vehicle insurance card, medical insurance card (if it carries address information), lease or rental agreement, property tax receipt, utility bill, paycheck (dated within 4-6 weeks), credit card statement, or bank account statement.
**Please Note: If photo ID does not have current address, a document with proof of address is required.
Minors under the age of 18 must be present with a parent or guardian to apply for a library card. The parent or guardian must have photo ID and proof of address and must sign the application. Children must be at least in Kindergarten to receive a library card.
Please report lost or stolen library cards immediately. Bring ID to the library and Circulation Desk staff will deactivate your old card and issue you a new one. There is a $1.00 charge for a new card.
You are not permitted to use another patron’s card for internet or borrowing privileges. Your card may be blocked if you are using another patron’s card.
You can renew your library materials at the circulation desk, online, or by calling 412-462-3444.
You can request materials from any public library in Allegheny County. When you find the item you want in the online catalog, click on the purple box where it says “Request This Item”. You will then have to enter your name, library card number,and the library where you would like to pick up the item.
